What materials are to be used, type of scenery wanted, how thick of layers are needed to protect the building.

For question 1, a more accurate comment would be that a low slope roof (not since we used cold tar pitch have we constructed a flat roof, building code states that we have to provide positive drainage) are easier to meet the external fire code, easier for future expansion, more practical for construction, actually are harder to maintain.

Question 5, basically there are two benefits of a vegetative roof system (green roofing maybe the use of environmental friendly products), one to aid in the fight against heat urban island affect and water retention (slows down the drainage of water off the roofs. There is no studies that prove or disprove the use of a vegetative roof system will double the life expectancy of your roofing system. It will not conserve energy unless your building is not well insulated, once you get above the R-20 insulation level, there is a minimal amount of savings from heat transfer.
