Activity 3.1.4 Commercial Roof Systems

1.    Why are flat roofs common on larger commercial buildings?Easier upkeep.

2.    Why are the standard pitched roof treatments not acceptable for a low-slope roof?
 Low slope roofs are only acceptable when the building expanse is too great for a pitched roof to be practical or when there is an addition to an existing building with a low slope roof.

3.    Why are the typical low-slope roof surfaces not appropriate when public access is planned?
Not designed to have people walking on it daily.

4.     What factors are important to consider when designing a green roof?
What materials are to be used, type of scenery wanted, how thick of layers are needed to protect the building.

5.    What advantages do green roofs provide over standard low-slope roof treatments?
Green roofs provide Controlling erosion and pollution, Improving water quality, cooling and cleaning the air, More than doubling the service life of the roof, Conserving energy
